One of our go to campgrounds in the lower mainland is Edgewater Bar Campground in Langley Township and run by Metro Vancouver. It is only a 20 minute drive from our home but allows for a relaxing trip away.

The campground is fully reservable and open for camping from March until the end of October. After that it can be used for day use only and is not reservable.

There are 38 unserviced waterfront sites, each with a picnic table and fire pit. Sites are level with a gravel base and easy RV access.

The highlight of this campground is the views. Sitting at your site and looking out at the Fraser River and mountains is spectacular. It is a very busy river with fishing boats, tug boats and pleasure boats moving up and down regularly. We don’t see many fish being caught but have witnessed a couple of sturgeon getting netted.

The campground is located in Derby Reach park which offers great amenities. There is a very large off-leash dog park, several reservable group picnic shelters, lots of day use picnic tables and fire pits, a large open grass field and a variety of trails. It is on the Fort to Fort trail into the town of Fort Langley which is about 8 km round trip and worth the walk. The Houston Trailhead is only a few km from the park and is an enjoyable 4 km hike.

Campground Details:
There really isn’t a bad site to be had at this park. Each site is on the river and offer amazing views. There is a public picnic shelter in the middle of the campground which is used by early morning fishers so it is best of avoid the sites that are next to it. The campground is home to several racoons so keeping your food and garbage stored away is important to avoid unexpected visitors.

The river and train provides a lot of noise so I suspect those sleeping in tents are woken several times a night. The toilets within the park are pit toilets but there is a very nice shower and washroom facility in the main park area.

Site Details:
Sites 35-38 are at the end of the park, off on their own and provide more shade. They also are close to the trail entrance and get a lot of foot traffic.

Site 36: of special note this site has the picnic table on the right side which is better for motorhomes or vans. The site description does include this but it is easy to miss.
Site 34: this is a prime site. It has trees behind it giving privacy from site 35 but has no sites in front of it for quite some distance and looking onto a large greenspace.
Sites 27-33: are all very similar. They are a bit longer sites down at that end, have a bit more space between sites, get sun later into the day but they offer limited privacy and have no shade trees.

Sites 26 and 23: are accessible sites and is very similar to sites 27-33
Sites 24 & 25 have the drawback of being next to the picnic shelter. Although there are shrubs between the shelter and the sites it still gets noisy. There are often early morning fisherfolk and that bring the extra noise.
Sites 15-22: these sites are a bit shorter and closer together than the sites past the picnic shelter. They also get shade earlier in the day which can be good or bad depending on your preference.
Double site 13/14: This is the only double site in the park. This site can be used as 2 single sites because the picnic table for the site on the right is in the middle and allows the site to be treated as 2 individual sites.

Site 2-12: are shorter as well and similar to site 15-22.

Site 1: is right at the entrance, next to the host so lacks privacy.
Pros
- Every site is waterfront and offer amazing views.
- New full service washroom with a coin operated shower house is located in the main park area (not within the campground gates)
- Water taps are threaded if you need to fill up on site.
- Great walking trails nearby. Both the Houston Trail and the Fort to Fort Trail can be reached from the campground.
- Several public picnic shelters in the main park which can be booked for private use and one in the middle of the campground area. This one is often used for early morning fishing.
- The park has a very large off leash dog park that offers several different sections.
- Depending on the time of year and if you have a licence, you can fish right from the beach.

Cons
- Gates close at 10:00 pm so after that you need to park on the road if you are returning late.
- No sani dump on site (nearest sani dump is Fort Langley for a fee)
- Toilets in the campground are all pit toilets, although they are always kept clean.
- Very noisy campground due to trains across the river and commercial boat traffic on the river.
- Foot traffic through the campground. With the great public park and amazing trails there is a lot of foot traffic along the campground road.
- Very difficult to get extra parking due to the popularity of the park for fishing and families.
